Internal Vacuum Systems

C.G. Godfrey Ltd offers a complete design and construct service for internal vacuum systems. These are ideally suited to sites with difficult ground conditions and are particularly economical for serving remote communities where conventional gravity sewers would require multiple pumping stations.

Advantages of the systems are:

  • Rapid installation
  • Narrow trenching
  • Shallow excavations
  • Sealed small diameter pipework
  • Minimal maintenance
  • Low energy consumption

The qualified design team is involved in schemes from initial appraisal, through to the design and production of construction drawings.  Experienced site staff supervise the installation with our mechanical and electrical department carrying out full commissioning and client training.

We highlight below 2 systems we have installed.

  • Installation of Internal Vacuum Foul Drainage System, Buxton Crescent Hotel and Spa

Client: Imetch Engineering Services Central Ltd

The main project consists of the conversion of the existing GRADE 1 Listed Consent building and adjacent Natural Baths Building into a 5 Star Thermal Spa Hotel in the pretty town of Buxton, Derbyshire. Part of the natural baths were to be demolished and have a new building added comprising of a first-floor pool, the remaining building was to be fully refurbished.

Buxton Internal Vacuum

Our works on this project was to design, manufacture, supply and install the vacuum drainage system within the Buxton Crescent Hotel and Spa in collaboration with EVAC who supplied the tank, pumps and sanitaryware. Routing of the vacuum pipework and the installation of the vacuum tank were the main difficulties here as we were working in the underground vaults where access and lighting were our main issues. The vacuum tank and pumps had to be dismantled, lowered through an access point and rebuilt early on before this access was blocked up for further development works. With using the vacuum system, this negates the need for falls in pipes and we can overcome many problems associated with typical gravity systems making it far more versatile.

  • Installation of Internal Vacuum Drainage – Travelodge, Welwyn Garden City

Client: C.F Roberts Ltd

The main contract consisted of the of the construction of a Travelodge hotel facility, set over three floors into an existing building. There are existing retail units on the ground floor, bedrooms and restaurant on the first floor, mixed hotel bedrooms and commercial use on the second floor and commercial use on the third floor.

Our part of the contract was to supply and install an EVDS designed internal vacuum drainage system consisting of a vacuum plant with associated pipework glued and fixed to rubber lined clips on studded steel rods secured to the ceiling (covered by suspended ceiling). The discharge pipework in 90mm HDPE 10bar pipe with electro-fusion fittings was then laid from the plant room to the designated discharge point, a vent pipe was also fitted terminating at high level.
